A PRESIDENTIAL DIRGE

I listened to President Biden’s speech tonight, and although it was technically not a dirge, which is a song of lamentation and sorrow, it was closer to a dirge than a eulogy.  A eulogy praises someone who has died.  A dirge is just a sad song.  Okay, in a strict literal sense, it was neither a dirge or a eulogy, it was just a sad hopeless speech.

There was no substance to the speech.  Wear masks, get the vaccine, obey science, ya da ya da ya da.  We’ve heard this tripe.  He claimed we should follow CDC protocol while ignoring the CDC’s recent report that masks’ hindrance of the transmission rate of Covid-19 is not significant.  The speech provided no certainties or concrete goals.  Follow the rules and things might get better, hopefully by July 4^th, 2021, but we can’t be sure.  He used the false Covid death number, the number that is vastly over-stated due to its failure to acknowledge co-morbidities causing death.  He ignored the deaths caused by Governors, there are four of them (at least), governors, not deaths, that mandated Covid-19 positive patients be placed in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.  He ignored the declining numbers that preceded the vaccinations being administered.  He had the audacity to tell Americans that they can have small gatherings on the Fourth of July but not large ones.  Who in the hell is anybody in this nation to tell us how many people we can have over for a barbecue? Does it not strike you as dark irony that he would claim to have the power to limit your independence on a day meant to celebrate independence? He gave Donald Trump zero credit for the rapid development of a vaccine.  He praised Fauci, the petite swamp rat who is inconsistent, dishonest, addicted to having his mug on TV, and lacking in any ability other than swamp etiquette.  He talked about unity while accusing Americans of attacking Asians, the implication being that we attack Asians because the virus came from Asia.  Please show me the case where an Asian was attacked because of the virus coming from Asia.  I looked.  I can’t find one.  He failed to accept any responsibility for the massive economic assault on the middle-class and small businesses.  He offered small business and the middle class nothing.  He ignored the fact that only nine percent of the massive spending bill is targeted for Covid related matters.  He offered nothing with certainty, nothing to inspire optimism, nothing to suggest that we will get through this government created mess.  You want a summary of the speech, here it is:  Honor thy government and if we feel like it, we might throw you a little freedom and liberty, but no guarantees.

And all he talked about was Covid.  He didn’t explain why he is destroying womens’ sports.  He didn’t explain why he has created a humanitarian crisis on the border.  He didn’t explain why illegal aliens are not being tested for Covid. He didn’t explain his hypocrisy of criticizing Trump for putting kids in “cages” while he is putting kids in “cages.” Neither of them actually put kids in cages, but they both put kids in the same sort of facilities that were called “cages” when Trump did it just like Obama did it before him.  He didn’t explain why he hasn’t given a single press conference. He didn’t explain why we have more troops defending Washington D.C. than we have defending Kabul, Afghanistan.  He didn’t explain why ninety-one percent of the spending bill went to non-covid matters, a lot of it offshore.  He explained nothing.  He offered nothing.  He confirmed what we all know, he is nothing.  He is an elderly man with a faulty and declining intellect, a sordid history of corruption, lacking the necessary capacity to lead a nation.  He read from a script, didn’t take questions, and ambled away, much like Chauncy Gardener did at the end of the movie Being There.  This man is an anti-American puppet.  The question we should all be asking is this – who’s pulling the strings?  The best answer I can come up with is that whoever it is, or whoever they are, are Americans in name only, but this might not even be true.  He did fail to mention anything China, just saying.      

The speech was a nothing-burger, a life wasting event.  Given the divided circumstances of our nation, we deserve better.  You disagree?  Then tell me, what did he tell us that we didn’t already know?  Okay, I’ll give you a few.  May 1^st is a target date for vaccines for all adults, but he even waffled on this one – in a scripted speech.  We’re going to get a website to guide us to locations giving vaccines, where we don’t even have to get out of our car to get it.  We might get his blessing if we want to hang with a few of our friends on the Fourth – if we obey.  Anything else?  The answer is no, which is sad.  I felt as if I attended a funeral and the minister, an old decrepit fellow, limited his talk to the illness and futile attempts to save the decedent, that’s it.  I’ll give you one more take-away.  He did spend some time talking about America being able to overcome anything and everything, which is true – if the government would just get out of the frickin’ way it is.
