HERE’S MY TAKE!
For years, I’ve been trying to figure out what it is that drive’s liberals? My analysis has gone everywhere between questioning my own intellectual prowess (even my sanity[1]) to considering whether they are possessed by Satan and everything in between. I mean, how can it be that people that are so functional in so many ways are so dis-functional when it comes to socio-political philosophy. (I’ll touch on the dis-function later in this essay) My sister, Wendy, says they have been brainwashed, that it’s a variant of Stockholm syndrome. She believes that they are trapped in their propaganda thwarted perception of reality and, rather than trying to escape, rather than having the courage to be objective and honestly question things with historical and factual analysis, they have fallen in love with their captors. They don’t even know that they are not being objective and truthful – they’ve got Stockholm Syndrome. It’s easier, right? I have not ruled out the correctness of Wendy’s Theory, but I have also not concluded she is right. I’m still perplexed and continue to rifle through the other explanations, the in-betweens which include abject stupidity, ignorance, apathy, envy, jealousy, spite, evil, malignance, laziness, sloth, pride, sociopathy, greed, megalomania or a malignant combination of all of the above.
Now, let me praise liberals or rather some of my liberal friends (until they read this). Many of them are financially successful. Many of them are well read. Many of them are loyal friends who would be there if I needed them. Many of them are involved in the community and public service. Some of them are charitable. Some of them are Christian. Most of them are self-sufficient. Some of them own guns. Some of them would never consider an abortion. What I am saying is that other than their politics, they are good people.
Now, let me share my view of what Liberals lack. I don’t believe they are as happy as Conservatives. I don’t believe they are as charitable as Conservatives. I don’t believe they are as capable of self-scrutiny as Conservatives. I don’t believe they are as introspective as Conservatives. I don’t believe they are as objective as Conservatives. I don’t believe (the way they live) is as Christian as Conservatives. I don’t believe they care as much as Conservatives. I know with certainty that they are not even in the league of Conservatives when it comes to a logical fact-based ability to discuss issues. And generally, I don’t find them to be as good as Conservatives. This last finding is going to enrage a lot of folks. So, let me quell the rage. I know liberals who are better people than some Conservatives. I’m speaking generally. There are always exceptions.
Okay, so now I’ve drawn the line in the sand, but I haven’t explained what is on each side of the line. I’ll hit on five issues. There are more, but these five will adequately define the sides. Here they are:
- BORDERS: You cannot have a nation without borders. Inherent in the definition of “nation” is a boundary. There is this thing called jurisdiction, the geographical area that a system of law and order is imposed upon. The citizens within a nation have expectations that laws will be applied equally to all, regardless of race, creed, color and religion. It is also expected that all laws will be enforced, not selectively prosecuted. If laws are selectively prosecuted, then the nation becomes a nation of men and is no longer a nation of law, a very un-American status. Our nation is founded upon the concept that all people, regardless of status, will have them applied to them uniformly. A poor person of color gets caught shoplifting, he or she gets the same treatment as a rich white person who gets if caught shop-lifting.
So, we have laws that prohibit the illegal entry into our country. And yet, the liberals, given their current power and regardless of it too, they insist that we should ignore our laws when it comes to immigration. This is indisputable. Characterize it as you will, that’s what liberals want. Do they not realize how dangerous this is? Do they not realize that when you abandon the rule of law, you become a nation of men, a nation of connections, a nation of corruption and ultimately, lose the nation? I get it. Short term thinking. Those poor Mexicans and Central Americans, we can afford to house them, employ them, subsidize them, educate them, care for them, and by the way, the Chamber of Commerce Republicans want them for cheap labor. Ya da ya da ya da. What we can’t afford is to be a country that doesn’t enforce its laws. Liberals think otherwise. They put emotion above principle. They wrap policy in good intentions rather than morality. Have they not studied the fall of Rome? Rome fell primarily because its borders became so vague that it lost its identity, and thus, lost its unity (Biden’s theme). The Empire of Rome could no longer define what a Roman was and as result, there was no Roman Empire.
- GUN VIOLENCE: First, there is no such thing as “gun violence.” A gun cannot be violent. Yes, it can be used by a violent person, but a gun on its own cannot be violent. It is an object, without a personality, without a passion, without a goal. People have used guns to commit violence, but guns have never committed violence without people. It is an easy, logical conclusion that guns are not the cause of violence because violence can occur without guns. It cannot occur without people. Admittedly, guns are used to kill too many people. But it is a people problem, not a gun problem. If guns were a cause of violence, Wisconsin where I live, where every deer season the population is better armed in both numbers and quality of firearms than the Battle of the Bulge, there would be astronomical levels of violence – and there isn’t. In my home county, most everybody owns guns and yet, I can’t recall a single gun violent event, well one, but it’s a pending matter. The Second Amendment is not about trap shooting, skeet shooting, hunting or pistol league. Rather, it is another check on government. Our founding fathers correctly understood that government is like fire. You need it but too much of it is deadly and given that the United States is a nation where the government is a subject of the people and not the other way around, they acknowledged the necessity of the right of citizen’s to have the where-with-all to fight the government if the government gets too invasive and tyrannical. There are no statistics, studies, or facts to suggest that taking away guns from the law abiding citizens reduce crime, killings, or violence. And the vast majority of gun owners are law abiding civil citizens who would never dream of using a gun to commit an illegal act. Yet, the Liberals want to take away the final check on government from the law abiding citizens under the false guise that it will reduce the murder rate in the south side of Chicago. This is bunk, unsubstantiated, ignorant logic. I’ll give the Liberals this, they know it’s bunk. They use the “gun violence” to weave their compassionate argument that banning guns will decrease violence while at the same time knowing full well that their goal is to prevent freedom loving citizens from defending themselves against tyranny.
By the way, when “assault rifles” were banned, gun violence did not decrease. If Biden tries to take the guns in today’s environment, it will lead to the break-up of our nation. There are too many lawful gun-owners who are at their wits end, unwilling to comply with an unconstitutional attack on an inalienable right. Check out the DOJ study which supports this point. The notion that assault weapon bans diminish mass shootings is not supported by facts.
- GLOBAL WARMING: Conservatives (check out the derivative of the word, conservation) want a clean environment. In fact, conservative areas are more clean than liberal areas. Have you been to Europe where the rivers all smell of urban decay? Have you been to the liberal run cities in our country and checked out the environment? Global warming, Climate Change, even Global Cooling, all are facades to effectuate more tyranny. Let me ask this question: Why given the premise of caring about the environment, do liberals support the Paris Climate Accord which allows China to do nothing until 2030 when they could use their energies to push for trade regulation on hyper polluting nations like China, India, Pakistan and others? I mean, they say they care about the environment and yet, they support policies that punish the cleanest economy, ours, and give a pass to the most pollutant economies? I guess if it feels good, that’s all it takes for a liberal to buy in. Hey, Libs, conservatives want a clean environment. We hunt, fish, hike, ski, and over-all love nature. If you love a clean environment, get your heads out of your asses and work for one, rather than supporting policy that claims to be concerned with “green” stuff, while really effectuating tyranny, loss of freedom, poverty and the attack on American principles. Do you not realize that as a nation gets impoverished, the first thing thrown over-board is environmental concerns. Face it, wealth provides a financial ability to have a clean environment.
- RACSIM: This one gets my goat. We are not a racist nation. Sure, there are racists, pathetic people, but they are rare. Racism is nothing more than the current ambiguous target of contempt that the left is using to divide the country. Liberals love to create ambiguous enemies. Is anybody questioning why so many people of color are amassed at our border if we are a racist nation? We had an African American President. We will have another one, if we still exist. We are not racist. And if we have institutional racism, or systematic racism, the Liberals run the institutions and systems. Liberals are the racists. They define people by their race, not their character. Biden actually dismissed a Justice Department law suit alleging that Yale University was discriminating against Asian Americans, which Yale admitted to doing, while the Biden committee is claiming that white supremacist are targeting Asians due to Covid-19, a/ka/ the China Virus. Biden, within the most recent Covid relief package, paid for the farm debt of African Americans, specifically identifying African Americans as the ones who get the benefit. Two congresswoman just said they won’t vote for certain cabinet nominees unless they are of a certain race. Liberals are expert at racism through low expectations. Blacks and Hispanics are not savvy enough to have an identification cared to vote? Blacks and Hispanics are not savvy enough to vote as white people are? Read the proposed legislation. It expressly says as such. If you read the words, listen to their words, liberals think people of color are less able to play in a free society. And yet they claim the Conservatives are the racists. That’s bunk. Liberals, the people of the Klan, Jim Crow, opposing the Civil Rights Act, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin D. Roosevelt who interned the Japanese, the New York Times that suppressed holocaust news, and now, in power, clearly draws distinctions based upon race rather than character, are the racists. Hell, they put it in writing, now. Their actions make it indisputable. And yet, they call us racist. Go figure.
- THE FIRST AMENDMENT: This one perplexes me. I mean, Berkley, one of the Genesis of freedom of speech, a true “liberal” bunker, now assaults conservative thinkers. Most universities and colleges do. Liberal news outlets openly plead for Fox News and other conservative news outlets to be controlled, even prohibited from broadcasting. Professors who are conservative are shunned, ridiculed, threatened and fired. Congressman and Congresswoman plead for control of speech. Trump supporters are targeted for surveillance because they rightfully question an election. Even if it isn’t rightful or based on fact, (it is), in America contrary political thought should be suppressed? That’s not the America I was raised on. And the Libs are all in on this one, well, not all. A few have sensed the danger of the trend. The reality is that Liberals are not for freedom of Speech and Conservatives are for the freedom of speech. The facts are indisuputable.
Well, there’s my five points. I could go into enterprise, growth of government, public schools, teacher’s unions, progressive taxation, the lunacy of the fair share tax argument, socialism, regulation, energy independence, and a slew of other issues, but I won’t. What I will say, is that most of us, liberals included are more similar than we accept. We want opportunity to actualize. We want freedom. We don’t want tyranny. We don’t want misery, strike this one and let me correct. We don’t all expressly state that we want misery. We love to actualize, to profit and to succeed. And yet, the Liberals fight against all of the values and principles which allow us to accomplish these things. Which brings the essay around to the point.
What is it that causes the Liberals to endorse, support and push principles, laws, government and attacks on liberty that allow us to obtain those things? Here’s my take: Liberals are cowards and I don’t say that in a wholistic sense. I can name at least five liberals that are more than capable of royally defeating me in a physical altercation. But these same tough guys are afraid to look in the mirror and accept the responsibility and risk of being responsible for oneself. Liberals are angry that their lives didn’t turn out as planned. Liberals are furious that others do better. Liberals are short term thinkers, unless they are planning for the eventual destruction of something good, like the U.S.A., then they are long term planners. Liberals are basically spoiled children who revel in tantrums, talking points, and bringing others down. When the competitor of liberal succeeds, the liberal doesn’t look in the mirror and ask what he or she did wrong, or where they failed, or where they could have done better. What a liberal does is attack the system, deluding themselves that their circumstances are not their fault, that the system caused them to be unsuccessful. Liberals fail to take personal responsibility, one of the most fundamental features of being an American. They want collective misery and collective failure. It is a bad way to be. Trust me on this one, being a conservative, always knowing your true enemy, yourself, always taking personal responsibility is a wonderful existence. It’s why we’re happier, more successful, and better people. You liberals are lacking. You truly are suffering from a delusion that laws, government and tyranny can administer happiness as if it is an elixir that is being wrongfully withheld from the populous.
Now, this is tough love. I have been harsh. But, you liberals need harsh. Trust me on this one, if you buy in, you will be happier, more successful, and even more charitable – better. History and humanity say as such. Never have liberal policies benefitted the masses and given that there is a powerful concerted effort to impose liberal policies, there lies my concern; my passion too. I want everybody to be happy and successful. I want everybody to have opportunity. I want everybody to actualize their dreams and ambitions. I just don’t want people to delegate the task to government and policies, because it never ever works. Look in the mirror. There’s your villain. There is also your answer. It’s not government, it’s not policy, it’s not law, it’s you. Give it a try. Be objective, be honest, be moral. You’ll be amazed at how much better your existence becomes.
God Bless. That’s my Reetzality for the day.
Brett Reetz
[1] Amongst my Conservative friends, we sometimes joke that maybe we are insane, in an actual nut-house, because our views are so contrary, yet logical, ethical, moral and righteous to us, to the liberal point of view – and there are so many liberals. Is it possible we are wrong, nuts? We’ve never concluded that we are nuts. And we’ve never ended the conversation with an explanation or understanding of liberalism.
