Elder abuse, also referred to as “elder mistreatment” is defined as a single or repeated act, or a lack of appropriate action, occurring within any relationship where there is an expectation of trust, which causes harm or distress to an older person.
Joe Biden is showing early signs of dementia or Alzheimer disease. Early signs of dementia include, memory loss and distortion, loss of vocabulary, changes in mood and disposition, faulty reasoning, disorientation, trouble with comprehension, balance problems, and loss of social skills. Alzheimer’s has similar symptoms including memory loss, disorientation, withdrawal from work or social activities, trouble with comprehension, problems with speech or writing, poor judgment, changes in mood or personality, agitation, difficulty with familiar tasks and difficulty with communicating.
Now, lets go to Joe. Joe Biden, without doubt, suffers from memory loss. He forgets where he is, who people are, where he’s going, what office he’s running for, simple things which a person should recall with ease. He has trouble with words, struggling to find the right words, even when attempting to defend his mental fitness. When interviewed by Errol Barnett of the National Association of Black Journalists, he was asked about his cognitive fitness. He said, “I am very willing to let the American people judge my physical, mental fil–my physical as well as my mental fil–fitness.” In the same interview, in an attempt to diminish any question of his mental state, he told Errol Barnett, “If he can’t figure out the difference between an elephant and a lion, I don’t know what the hell he’s talking about.” I am pretty sure poor old Joe knew what he was talking about, he just couldn’t say it. By the way, identifying animals is one component of Montreal Cognitive Assessment which Trump aced. I’m going to suggest that Joe meant an elephant and a donkey, but donkey, elephant, what’s the difference, right? And watch Joe walk onto and off a stage in his careful shuffle, just like an old person fearful of falling, which he is. He has avoided campaigning, staying home bound, which is certainly a withdrawal from work and social activities. He’s unable to deliver a speech or answer a question without a teleprompter. His pressers are anything but and should be called “readings,” the kind an author does to push a book, because that’s what he’s doing, reading, apparently most everything he speaks. And his conduct, the way he reacts to people questioning him, reeks of an elder getting caught in a brain freeze and covering it with anger. Recall, he asked Errol Barnett if he was a junkie? He called a citizen a “lying dog faced pony soldier.” He called an Iowa voter a liar and challenged him to a push-up contest. Now, there is no doubt that Trump is not shy about calling folks names. But he does it within a lucid dialogue. Trump’s name calling is strategic. Biden’s is reactionary. Trump is on offense when he labels folks. Biden is on defense. Biden is agitated, another sign of dementia or alzheimer’s. And of course, Joe has difficulty communicating. What other reason would there be for teleprompters and pre-ordained questions and questioners? He is routinely referred to as a gaff machine. In Michigan, he intended to say Michigan but instead said Military, when referring to deaths. In June he announced that one-hundred and twenty million Americans had died from Covid-19. The actual number was one hundred and twenty thousand. Now, a gaff here and there, no problem, but Biden’s gaffs, misstatements, confusion and inability to articulate are chronic. Come on folks, be honest, the guy is fading. I could have made this paragraph into a novel there are so many examples of his waning intellect.
And that is sad. Despite my contempt for his politics, he is human and he is suffering. You can see it in his face. You can see it in his vacant gaze. And he is being used and abused.
He is the kid in the neighborhood that is shunned, teased and taunted . . . until he gets a mini-bike. With his new toy, things change for the tormented kid. All of the kids that had been relentlessly tormenting the poor kid are suddenly his best friend. Of course, they’re not friends, not friends at all, but they play the role so they can take a turn on the mini-bike, telling the kid he’s cool, laughing at his jokes, making him feel accepted at last. And the kid is thrilled, genuinely grateful for the change of social status. Of course, it’s all a ruse. I’ve seen it done to kids who are afflicted with down syndrome. Other kids use the down kid to be the brunt of their jokes, assuring the down kid that he’s not the brunt of the jokes, he’s just funny, everybody eats worms and dog feces. It’s extremely hurtful to watch the exploitation of a longing desire to be approved of and accepted when neither of those things are actually occurring, when it’s a selfish fraud.
And its hurtful and saddening to watch Joe Biden suffer the abuse of his handlers, including his wife, Jill. You see, Joe doesn’t know he’s being used and abused. I sense that he genuinely believes he is on his game, that his handlers are sincere. Really? Yes, really. Put yourself, with your clear head, in Joe’s shoes. If you were told that you were doing a presser and all of the questions would be scripted and pre-ordained, wouldn’t your natural response be to reject the script and deem yourself capable of speaking and answering questions without a teleprompter? Would you not be genuinely offended, insulted even? Would you not suspect your handlers believe you to be feeble? Would you not question yourself and wonder if you are feeble? If your mind was working, you would indeed.
By all appearances, Joe is unaware he is being handled and used. Circling back to my premise, that he is a victim of elder abuse, the handlers are committing repeated acts of inappropriate actions by misleading Joe into thinking he is all there. He is a Max-Headroom to his handlers. They are propping him up and putting him out there, unconcerned that he is likely to take a big fall. His handlers are playing a dark game of the emperor’s new clothes. In Joe’s case, it’s the status of the emperor’s brain that is being lied about, not the lack of clothing, but you get my point. And like the emperor who believed he was wearing new clothes when there weren’t any clothes at all, Joe believes his handlers when they pat him on the back and tell him all is good. He has, from his perspective, a relationship and expectation of trust. And there will be harm and distress to Old Joe. His mind is fading, but not fast enough to prevent him from realizing, just before his mind goes all dark, that he was nothing more than an unknowing shill who was lied to so that his faux loyalists could ride his mini-bike, or in his case, his presidential campaign, into power without a true care in the world for old Joe. So be it. What’s the harm in exploiting a deteriorating old man when world power is almost in your grasp? Well, it’s evil and immoral, there’s that.
Despite his politics, despite his corruption, despite his less than mediocre legislative career and despite being a primal swamp monster, I pity the man. You should, too.
That’s my Reetzality for the day. Thanks for the read.
